Michael's perspective on hasn't changed but more so, reflected on the benefits on your wellbeing and the simplistic things, such as routine. Here is Michael's list of 6 things I’ve learnt as a pet sitter 1 year on:

1. How much fun it is (aka the perfect job does exist) - I absolutely love animals and was definitely excited to start pet sitting with Floofs and Friends but a year on and it still never feels like a job! I think people underestimate the impact a job that you love has on you.

2. Wellbeing is key - Pets pick up what you put down! Pet sitting has taught me that it's important to have a strong work/life balance because the pets benefit so much from us if we are on top form. I’ve been able to take on as much or as little as works for me, so it’s been easy to combine sits and stays with my full time wfh job

3. Love your area - You don't have to go far to explore somewhere new. Even as someone who’s lived in Norfolk all my life, going to new areas and finding new dog walks has been a real perk! There really is beauty in the small things.

4. How important routine is (in other words, go back to the basics!) - I have really seen the benefit of pets staying in their own home when their owners are away, and it has confirmed to me how valuable it is to allow pets to keep their day to day to day routine to help minimise stress, promote wellbeing and offer structure. you need to respect your pet's routine.

5. Different people respond differently to the same dog - I can't believe how important it is to form a bond, it really does the make the difference (quirks and all). I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the pets I care for and learning their individual personalities, quirks and characters has been so beneficial to my ability to care for them.

6. Meeting and greeting - It's crazy how lovely it is to meet fellow pet owners as we really do love your pets just as much as you! As much fun as it has been to meet amazing pets, it’s also been great to meet so many new people over the past year and being welcomed in to your home. I recognise that your pets are your world and I reflect that in the care offered. As a pet sitter, we just love pets.
