It's a great mental enrichment!
dog training

Teaching your dogs tricks, especially when they are not a puppy, will not be easy but with time, patience and dedication your lovely dog will surely learn to do the trick you teach. Not only is it great for them, it's a great bonding experience for you. From "Playing Dead" and "Crawl" to Spin, we're noted down the instructions for you.

Playing Dead (our favourite!)

. First of all, your dog needs to know the basic commands like "sit", "down", and "stay".

. Get your dog sit or lie down and gently guide them down on their side once achieved give them a treat.

. Next, use a verbal cue like "bang" or "play dead" whilst rolling your dog on it's side.

. Gradually stop helping them roll on their side so they learn to do it by themselves.

. Reward and repeat until they successfully play dead!

Bow

. Start off with your dog standing and slowly move a treat in your hand to between their front legs slowly.

. Give them a reward them once they are in the bowing position and whilst doing this add a cue such as "bow" to reinforce the trick.

. Practice regularly and hopefully it shall be reinforced.

Close Door

. Using a sticky note, put it on the door and align it with their nose height.

. Reward them with a treat every time they hit it with their paw or boop it with their nose.

. When they are doing this use a command like "close it" or "push".

. Once your pet keeps doing it consistently they should be able to shut the door on command.

Crawl

. Your dog should know the command lie down first before starting this trick.

. Use the word "move" whilst moving the treat slowly in front of them. Make sure their body is close to the ground.

. Once they start to get the hang of it, gradually increase the distance.

. Being patient and practicing this so your dog doesn't forget this trick is a key thing to do.

Spin

. Whilst your dog is standing slowly move the treat around them to make them spin.

. Saying the word "spin" when doing this so they can connect the word to the action.

. Practicing this will eventually teach them how to spin.

. You could even try to make your dog spin on their hind legs if they like to stand on their back legs.

With practice your dog will be able to master these tricks in no time! Which is your dog's favourite trick to perform?
