And They Sleep How MUCH..

As a cat owner, it's hard not to worry about whether our cat sleeps too much and the constant battle that it's a fear they are a bored or unwell however, we can whole heartedly agree and thought it was great idea to deep dive into how much sleep cats really need.
How Much Sleep Is Normal for Cats?
Cats are natural sleepers. On average, our gorgeous adult cats sleep anywhere between 12–16 hours per day, whereas, kittens and senior cats may sleep between 18–20 hours per day mark. Much of this sleep is light dozing rather than deep sleep, which allows cats to wake quickly if something catches their attention. As you can already begin to see, cats just LOVE sleep.
Signs Your Cat’s Sleep Is Normal
Your cat’s sleep habits are likely healthy if they:
Wake up easily for meals, play, or attention
Are alert and responsive when awake
Eat and drink normally
Use the litter box as usual
Still show interest in short bursts of play
If these behaviours are present, long sleep hours are usually nothing to worry about and they are simply living their best life.
When Excessive Sleep May Be a Concern
It's natural to clock whether you feel that your cat is sleeping excessively and if that's the case, it's time to see if there has been any other changes, such as, low energy or lack of interest in play, loss of appetite, weight changes, hiding more than usual or even changes in litter box habits. These may be signs that point to illness, stress, or discomfort. We'd recommend booking an appointment with your vet to go over this.
However, before you start to worry about the excessive sleeping, there may be harmless reasons what cause your gorgeous cat to sleep more. This could be due to hot weather, aging, growth or mild stress due to a temporary change to the routine. If you believe it may be due to boredom, trial different types of cats, different types of treats and smaller bursts of play (5 - 10 mins, up to 5 times a day!).
