Time to clear out your fridge for gerbils!

If you know us, you know we love being eco-friendly where possible and that even means reducing your food waste. Before popping everything in the bin, check the list to see if your lovely little gerbils can help out! Although Gerbils mainly eat dry foods (seeds, grains and pellets), but you can safely offer small amounts of fresh fridge foods as treats a few times a week. Here are some gerbil-friendly options you might already have in your fridge:

  • Vegetables - Carrot (very small slice), Cucumber (tiny chunk, mostly flesh not watery centre), Broccoli (small floret), Cauliflower (small piece), Bell pepper and Leafy greens (not iceberg).

  • Fruit - Apple (no seeds), Pear, Blueberries and Strawberry. For guidance on sizing, a piece of fruit should be about the size of your fingernail.

  • Herbs - Parsley, Basil and Coriander.

  • Dairy - Very small amounts of plain natural yogurt can be offered occasionally. We hope the little gerbils enjoy!
