Guinea pigs have sensitive digestive systems, so feeding them the right foods is crucial for their health. While their diet mainly consists of hay, fresh vegetables and pellets, some human foods can be safe and enjoyable treats. It's time to raid your fridge!
Here are 10 safe foods you can feed your guinea pig..
1. Bell Peppers
Benefit: Excellent source of vitamin C, which guinea pigs cannot produce on their own.
Caution: Feed small pieces, remove seeds and stems before serving and avoid giving too much to prevent digestive upset.
2. Carrots
Benefits: Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and fibre.
Caution: Offer thin slices or small chunks, feed in moderation due to natural sugars and make sure to wash thoroughly to remove any pesticides.
3. Cucumbers
Benefit: Cucumbers have high water content, helping keep your guinea pig hydrated.
Caution: Make sure to peel the skin if it’s waxed or too tough, cut into small pieces to avoid choking and always serve fresh in their original form (no pickled goodies here, thank you!)
4. Romaine Lettuce
