Find out what makes a Dachshund so popular and why you may consider one yourself

In 2020, Dachshunds were one of London's most fashionable pets and named the 5th most popular breed and had 1.8 million tags for 'miniature dachshund', so it's no secret that these little sausages have carried on the rise to become the most bred dog in the UK in 2026!
The most common reasons people say they own a dachshund always circle round to loyal, loving and full of character. Not to mention their little legs win people over every time.
Everyone looks for loyalty in a dog so it's no secret that they are popular for that reason. They also love routine and knowing what's next, and what to expect. Their loving and caring side comes out at every point. They follow you to the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom and the sofa, wanting to be by your side (if you have one you'll understand!). They are so affectionate and love a cuddle more than most.
To top it all off, their character makes for great entertainment. They are funny, silly and surprisingly brave for their size creating a big personality that brings a smile to everyone's face.
Don't let fashion and trend take over and always check they are bred well. They can fall into negative behaviours if they aren't given the proper training. Expect digging, barking at the door and guarding.
